Rate is amount per unit. Find the unit rate first.
amounttimerate = amount ÷ time
Amount per unit of time.
Key points
  1. 1Rate = amount ÷ units. Unit rate makes scaling easy.
  2. 2Keep the same units on both sides (kg with kg, min with min).
  3. 3For time, convert to a single unit (all minutes or all hours).
  4. 4This is not Speed. Do not use distance-speed-time here.
Worked example
  1. 1Rate: $18 ÷ 3 = $6 per kg.
  2. 2Cost: 7.5 × $6 = $45.
Answer: $45
